About Ogawa
Ogawa opened on NW 2nd Avenue in Little Haiti in 2021 and won its Michelin star in 2022 — the kitchen's first full year of service. Chef Masa Himeno, previously of Morimoto South Beach, runs a 10-seat hinoki counter and serves a strictly classical 15-piece Edomae omakase with rice aged and seasoned in-house.
The format is entirely orthodox: whitefish-through-tuna-through-uni progression, no modernist additions, fish sourced through a Tokyo intermediary that supplies several of the city's higher-end sushi programmes. The chef speaks fluent English and explains each piece in detail, which makes the counter an accessible introduction to the tier for clients unfamiliar with the format.
At approximately $195 per person pre-sake, Ogawa is the best price-to-quality ratio among Miami's Michelin-starred sushi rooms. The Little Haiti location is a deliberate choice — it keeps the room focused on regulars and serious diners rather than walk-in hotel traffic — and has not stopped the star, the reservation difficulty, or the consistent industry recommendation.
Best Occasion Fit
Ogawa impresses clients who know the sushi category. The Michelin star, the ten-seat counter, the classical Edomae format, and the fact that the best sushi in Miami is currently in Little Haiti rather than South Beach all combine into a dinner that communicates genuine knowledge of the city. A superb solo-dining counter as well.
