1884 is Francis Mallmann's original Mendoza city-centre restaurant — opened in 1995 inside the 1884 Bodega Escorihuela, the historic Belle Époque winery in the Godoy Cruz neighbourhood five kilometres from the city centre — and is the longest-running of the chef's vineyard-restaurant projects. The restaurant occupies the converted bodega's original 1884 storage hall with hand-carved Italian-marble columns, a central open-flame parrilla grill, and ninety-six covers across two rooms.

The cuisine is the canonical Mallmann fire-cooked menu. Four-course fixed programme rotating seasonally; signatures include the famous 'asado al asador' — Patagonian lamb crucified on a vertical cross over open flame; a slow-grilled Argentine ribeye over coals; a chapa-cooked seasonal vegetable plate; the famous 'flan de Mallmann' — a salt-caramel flan with dulce de leche.

The wine list runs to 800 references with deep Argentine coverage and a particular focus on the Bodega Escorihuela house vintages going back to the 1990s. The pairing programme runs four glasses against four courses.

The restaurant operates exclusively at lunch and early dinner — the Mallmann fire-cooking schedule requires daylight for the asador. Service is family-run — captains rotate from the Mallmann seasonal pool.
