About Jade Restaurant

Jade Restaurant is the Cantonese-and-Shanghainese fine-dining flagship of the JW Marriott Hotel Medan — the Marriott-International five-star property on Jalan Putri Hijau that opened in 2009 as the city's first-and-only-five-star international hotel and remains the Medanese-corporate-and-diplomatic-dining anchor. The restaurant occupies a Chinese-imperial-styled dining hall within the hotel, with the dim-warm-wood interior, the Chinese-imperial-art-and-textile decor, the central round-table-with-lazy-Susan banquet-hall format, and the open-display dim-sum-cart service.

The menu is the Hong-Kong-fine-dining canon at hotel-flagship execution. The signatures are the Peking duck (the table-side carved two-course service — the crispy-skin-with-pancakes course followed by the duck-mince-with-lettuce-cups course), the abalone-and-sea-cucumber Cantonese braise, the Shanghainese xiaolongbao soup-dumplings, the Hong-Kong-style steamed garoupa (the prized Sumatran-coast grouper), and the bird's-nest-soup-with-rock-sugar dessert. The dim-sum service runs every day at lunch and the Sunday yum-cha format. A multi-course Cantonese banquet for two runs IDR 1,200,000-2,500,000 ($75-160).

The room is engineered for the Indonesian-Chinese-corporate clientele. The Chinese-imperial dining-hall, the round-table-and-lazy-Susan banquet format, the discreet white-glove service from the senior international-Chinese waitstaff, the spaced tables, and the alcohol-licensed wine-and-Chinese-baijiu programme make Jade the Medan standard-issue Chinese-business-banquet venue. Capacity is around 120 across the main dining hall and the four private salons.

Reservations are essential during the Indonesian-Chinese-New-Year peak (January-February) and the corporate-banquet evenings; one-to-two weeks ahead for the prime tables and the private salons. The restaurant accepts cards, the menu carries Indonesian-English-Chinese, and the kitchen is led by an award-winning Chinese executive chef rotated through the Marriott Asia-Pacific Chinese-restaurant programme.
