About Portland

Portland opened on Great Portland Street in 2015 and has held one Michelin star since 2016. The kitchen runs a deliberately short modern European menu — typically five or six dishes per course tier — with a strong fish programme, grown-up wine list, and the kind of ingredient-first sensibility that has made the Clerkenwell Boy / Anchor & Hope lineage such a steady influence on London dining.

The dining room is narrow, bright, and understated — white walls, wood floors, an open pass at the back. There is a counter at the front where solo diners and walk-ins can sometimes find space, and a small number of private-feeling tables along the banquette. Service is competent and fast without being rushed.

Pricing sits unusually honest for a Michelin-star room: a three-course a la carte averages around £80 and the set lunch is one of the best-value Michelin lunches in London at £35. The wine list is eclectic-European with strong natural producers.

Best Occasion Fit

Portland is the unshowy deal dinner — the room that doesn't signal anything particular about your tastes beyond competence. Good for deals with counterparts who distrust ostentation, for solo dining at the counter, and for the kind of quiet business conversations that don't benefit from a Mayfair stage.
