The Experience
The Waroeng is the Indonesian-cuisine restaurant at Jeeva Klui — the small (35-villa) luxury resort on the Mangsit coast, five kilometres north of Senggigi — and is the best case of beach-pavilion Indonesian dining at a price point below The Oberoi's. The pavilion sits directly on the beach, with a thatched-roof dining platform, open sides, and outdoor seating on the beach sand in a lantern-lit arrangement that is used most evenings. The feel is less grand than Lumbung but proportionally more intimate; the whole dining platform holds twenty-five covers at maximum, and most nights the occupancy is lower.
The menu is predominantly Indonesian with a particular focus on Sasak and Balinese traditions. The signatures: a Sasak ayam taliwang with plecing kangkung that is the resort restaurant's answer to the local dish; a Balinese bebek betutu (spice-rubbed slow-cooked duck, ordered 24 hours ahead) that is among the better preparations outside Ubud; a whole-fish grilled with Balinese spice paste, priced by weight; and a rijstaffel (rice-table, the Dutch-colonial Indonesian multi-dish format) that is the standard group order. The breakfast programme (07:00–10:30) is equally strong and is the reason long-stay guests keep coming back.
The wine programme is smaller than The Oberoi's but well-chosen — roughly 80 bins, strong on Australian and New Zealand, a small Italian and French selection, and three Indonesian options. The cocktail programme features Bali-gin negronis and tuak-based highballs that are better than the norm. Service is relaxed-luxury — less formal than Oberoi, more attentive than Senggigi's non-resort restaurants.
Reservations are recommended for beach-sand seating in the evening (the lantern-lit tables book out in high season); interior dining almost always accommodates walk-ins. Bookings via resort concierge or the Jeeva Klui website. The IDR 600K–1.2M per person range covers a three-course dinner without wine. Non-resort guests are welcome but should phone ahead; the resort gate is staffed.
Why it's perfect for Impress Clients
For impressing a client in Lombok at a slightly lower cost and more intimate register than Lumbung offers, The Waroeng is the precise alternative. The beach-sand terrace, with the lanterns and the Lombok Strait sunset, is dramatically atmospheric without being production-heavy. For a birthday celebration at a smaller scale, the whole pavilion can be booked for a private dinner (pre-arranged with the concierge).
