Olga's Italian Kitchen — Italian / International, Livingstone

Olga's Italian Kitchen is Livingstone's most celebrated independent restaurant — a genuine Italian kitchen run with the passion that only a personal project achieves. The pasta is made fresh daily; the sauces are prepared from scratch; the gelato is made in-house with local fruit.

The menu is Italian in its bones with occasional Zambian inflections that work better than they have any right to. The tagliatelle with game ragu — minced kudu or warthog in a slow-cooked tomato sauce with fresh herbs — is the signature crossover dish and the item that has made Olga's famous along the safari circuit.

The tiramisu, made correctly with mascarpone, ladyfingers, and good espresso, is the best dessert in Livingstone and arguably in Zambia. Olga guards the recipe as a family secret.

The garden terrace, open to the evening air, creates a dining environment of genuine charm — flowers from the garden, candlelight, and the sound of the African bush rather than traffic. It is exactly the right setting for Italian comfort food consumed a long way from Italy.

Best Occasion: Perfect for First Dates

Italian food is universally accessible, the garden is romantically appropriate, and the game ragu provides a genuine conversation starter. Olga's produces first-date evenings of consistent quality.

Best Occasion: Great for Birthdays

The tiramisu with a candle is the birthday finale the kitchen has been practicing. The game ragu provides the main event. The garden terrace provides the atmosphere.
