Trincas opened in 1939 as a confectioner and became a full-service restaurant in the 1950s. Seventy-plus years later it remains the only Park Street establishment that has continuously hosted live music — the same high-ceilinged, red-upholstered room has seen Usha Uthup, Pam Crain, Biddu, and a long succession of Kolkata's English-language singers pass through its nightly lineups.
The menu is full Park Street continental: Lobster Thermidor, Chicken à la Kiev, Fish and Chips, Chelo Kebab (a Park Street staple every restaurant offers), Prawn Cocktail, and a surprisingly good Chinese section reflecting Kolkata's long-standing Hakka community. The cooking is dependable rather than inventive; Trincas is not the destination for a fine-dining evening, but it is the destination for dinner-and-live-music.
The music starts at 9 p.m. on most nights — a three-piece band on a small corner stage, doing mainstream jazz, soft rock, and Hindi-film covers. The room accommodates two-tops comfortably but reads best for groups of six to ten, and the bar keeps the drinks moving through the evening. The cocktail list is basic; most regulars drink beer, whisky, or the house old-fashioned.
For a team dinner or celebration, Trincas is the natural Kolkata choice — the live music replaces the need for small-talk management, the long tables absorb a big group, the bill stays moderate, and the Park Street walk-out extends the evening. It is the closest Kolkata comes to a proper jazz-dinner room.
Why it fits Team Dinner
Team Dinner belongs here because Trincas takes the pressure off — the live band means nobody has to carry the conversation, the long tables absorb a team, the menu is easy, and the Park Street location makes the after-dinner walk to Peter Cat or Flurys natural. The perfect team-anniversary room.
