Pla Pla — Thai for 'fish' — is Four Seasons Koh Samui's signature beach restaurant. It sits directly on Laem Yai Beach at the far north-west corner of the island, inside what many critics still consider the best resort on Koh Samui. The restaurant runs two registers: a laid-back lunch service and a more formal dinner, both built around a live-tank seafood display and a wood-fired grill.
The menu is straightforward beachfront fine-dining. Whole grilled sea bass, tiger prawns, rock lobster, scallops on the grill, a Thai salad section, and a curry set for diners who don't want straight grill. The quality of the seafood — Four Seasons runs a dedicated sourcing team on the Gulf — is the best on the island.
The setting is the set-piece: the Gulf of Thailand directly in front of you, the Four Seasons infinity pool cascading down behind, and the resort's private cove lit with torches after sundown. Sunset on Laem Yai is a particular Koh Samui moment because the beach faces due west, which Dining on the Rocks and most north-east properties do not.
For a birthday, the restaurant holds long tables up to sixteen comfortably and the Four Seasons team will arrange cake, photographer, and pre-dinner cocktails in an adjacent private cabana without extra fuss. The resort is expensive, but for a group format the per-person spend is competitive with Dining on the Rocks while offering much more flexibility.
Why it fits Birthday
Birthday belongs here because Pla Pla handles groups. The beachfront, the live-tank, the grill, the long tables, the cocktail cabanas, and a resort operation that has done thousands of birthday dinners — the scalable celebration room on Koh Samui.
