About Tennerhof

Tennerhof Gourmet Restaurant is the gastronomic dining room of the Tennerhof Hotel — a Relais & Châteaux farmhouse property on the Griesenauweg above the town centre, owned by the Pfeffer-Pasquali family for four generations and continuously operated since the 1950s. The hotel was originally a 17th-century Tyrolean farmhouse; the Gourmet restaurant occupies the original Bauernstube — the wood-panelled farmhouse parlour — with the original 1670 hand-painted ceiling boards, a ceramic Kachelofen wood-burning stove, and twenty-two seats across seven tables.

Chef Stefan Lenz cooks a recognisably modern Tyrolean cuisine with strong French technique. The seven-course tasting rotates seasonally; signatures include a hand-rolled Kärntner Kasnudel with mountain cheese and pine nut; a slow-roasted Tyrolean lamb shoulder with juniper jus and braised endive; a smoked Schliersee char with horseradish butter; a Schnaps-glazed Kaiserschmarrn for the dessert course that the kitchen has refined since opening.

The wine list runs to 800 references with deep coverage of Austrian and Italian Alpine smallholders — Wachau Riesling, Steiermark Sauvignon, Südtirol Pinot Bianco, Trentino sparkling — and a serious Burgundy and Champagne section. Sommelier Hubert Dichtl has worked the room for fifteen years and the pairing flight at €110 is the best wine value at any one-star register in Tyrol. The cellar's Alto-Adige Pinot Nero vertical is the deepest in any Austrian Alpine restaurant.

Service is genuinely family-run — the Pasquali siblings rotate the dining room, the captain has worked the property since 1998, and the kitchen pacing is unhurried. The hotel itself is fifty rooms; most diners are overnight guests which means the kitchen runs without watching the clock. Tennerhof is the Kitzbühel address that the town's institutional regulars — local farming families, Hahnenkamm-week visitors, the village's professional set — quietly recommend over any newer property.

Why It's Perfect for Proposal

Tennerhof is the proposal-grade table in Kitzbühel — twenty-two seats means total privacy, the original 1670 painted ceiling and Kachelofen stove are the room's anchor, and the family-run pacing accommodates a slow-moving evening. Brief the captain three days ahead; the team have done dozens of proposals across the years and time the moment with the cheese course.
