About Tabatabaei House Cafe

Tabatabaei House is one of Kashan's most-visited single architectural destinations — a 19th-century cotton-merchant residence with elaborate carved-stucco interior decoration that's one of the country's primary examples of Qajar-era domestic architecture. The house's small cafe operates inside the central inner-courtyard and runs as a Kashan-classics restaurant in formal Persian-traditional presentation.

The menu is broad Kashan-Persian. Khoresht Nokhod Alleh ($20), Persian Camel Stew ($26), Mixed Chelo Kabab ($22), Tahchin ($14), Khoresh-e Fesenjan ($20). The cafe also serves a small Kashan-rosewater dessert section featuring rosewater-infused Persian-style ice creams, faloodeh sorbet, and the Kashan-specific saffron-rosewater rice pudding. A meal of two Persian classics with rosewater dessert for two runs $40-60.

The setting is the architectural set-piece. The Tabatabaei House inner-courtyard with the original carved-stucco walls, the central reflecting pool, the hand-painted Persian-miniature ceiling murals, and the traditional Persian-carpet decoration give the dining space an architectural authenticity that few other Kashan venues can match. Capacity is thirty across the courtyard plus a small indoor section used in winter or rainy weather.

Reservations matter — the courtyard tables book one week ahead. The restaurant accepts cards and the staff speak strong English. The cafe is open lunch-and-dinner with a continuous service and is the city's most-recommended single small-portions architectural-setting dining experience.
