About Bastani Restaurant

Bastani Restaurant sits within walking distance of Naqsh-e Jahan Square (Imam Square) and is one of the city's most architecturally beautiful dining rooms — the building has domed ceilings, original kashi-tile mosaic walls, stained glass windows, and traditional takht (raised wooden platforms with Persian carpets) seating in the side galleries. The room is unmistakably Isfahani in setting and is one of the city's most-photographed dining destinations.

The menu is broad Persian classics. Beryani ($16) — the Isfahan signature, here in a slightly more refined presentation than Beryani Azam's. Fesenjan ($22) — the walnut-pomegranate stew with chicken. Mirza Ghasemi ($14) — the Persian smoked-eggplant-and-egg dip from the Caspian region, a classic Iranian appetiser. Chelo Kabab ($24-32) — the rice-and-grilled-meat plate with various kabab cuts. A meal of three Persian classics, tahdig rice, and dessert for two runs $50-70.

The architectural setting is the room's whole pitch. The main dining hall sits beneath an original 17th-century-style domed ceiling with kashi-tile mosaic decoration; the side galleries have low takht-platform seating with hand-woven Persian carpets and bolster pillows; the central pool-and-fountain feature gives the dining space a small inner-courtyard atmosphere. Capacity is one hundred and twenty across the building.

Traveller reviews note that the food, while properly cooked, doesn't always match the architectural grandeur of the space — the Persian classics are competent rather than exceptional. The recommendation is to choose Bastani for a romantic atmospheric dinner in one of Isfahan's most beautiful spaces, and Shahrzad for the city's clearest combination of food quality and atmosphere. Reservations matter for the takht seating on weekend evenings.
