About Opëam

Opëam is the restaurant that finally gave Ipoh a tasting menu worth making a trip for. Opened in Greentown's business district and helmed by a chef with stagiaire time in Copenhagen and Singapore, it runs a fifteen-course progression that moves through Malaysian terroir — Cameron Highland strawberries, Teluk Bahang line-caught snapper, local buffalo milk, Perak-grown cep — with European technique applied with real precision.

The room seats twenty-four across two services. It is dark, hushed, cleanly contemporary — a single long gold chandelier, black walls, brass-rimmed tableware. Acoustically calm enough for a business dinner and visually striking enough for a birthday. The wine list runs 120 labels with strong burgundies and a pleasant selection of Australian and New Zealand boutique producers; sommelier pairings are offered at two price tiers.

Service is the best in Ipoh. The chef brings several courses personally; the sommelier knows the room without hovering; pacing runs between 135 and 150 minutes. The bathroom, incongruously, is a marbled small thing of beauty. The bill will surprise a Kuala Lumpur diner used to Michelin-starred pricing — Opëam delivers a comparable experience for roughly a third of what an equivalent tasting would cost in KL.

For closing a deal, Opëam is Ipoh's strongest answer. The room is private enough to discuss serious business and impressive enough to signal you value the relationship. Ask for one of the two banquette tables at the back — acoustically sheltered, visually commanding.

Why It's Perfect for Close a Deal

A business dinner here costs half what Kuala Lumpur would charge and delivers a better, quieter, more focused room. Ipoh's single best deal table.
