Beach Society

Beach Society is the signature restaurant of SO/ Sofitel Hua Hin, the French-luxury group's design-forward property at Pranburi, thirty minutes south of central Hua Hin. The restaurant sits at the seam between the hotel and the beach — a long covered terrace with the Gulf of Thailand running across its full length — and is Hua Hin's single most-photographed dining-room view.

The kitchen plays a modern-international menu across Thai ingredients: signature creations, grilled seafood, a short pasta-and-risotto section, a raw-bar oyster programme. The food is well-executed rather than exceptional; the argument for Beach Society is the setting, and the kitchen is confident enough to let the setting do most of the work. For a sunset first date or a beach birthday, this is the evening; for a gastronomically focused client dinner, Jaras is the better Hua Hin reservation.

The SO/ Sofitel property itself is a design-first hotel — heavily-styled rooms, a rooftop cocktail bar (HI SO Rooftop), and a pool that runs along the beachfront. Dinner at Beach Society folds naturally into a pre-dinner cocktail upstairs and a post-dinner walk along the beach. For a first-date booking, the sequencing is the reservation: 6:30pm cocktails on the rooftop for sunset, 7:30pm dinner at the terrace, 9:30pm beach walk.

Reservation lead time is a week for the sunset-facing terrace tables; the 7:00 to 7:30 sitting is the request. The hotel concierge handles all external bookings and can coordinate transport from central Hua Hin (thirty minutes in ordinary traffic). Service charge of 10% is included; tipping beyond that is not expected.

A first date at Beach Society works because the setting is doing the heavy lifting and the evening has a natural three-act sequencing built in — rooftop cocktails for sunset, dinner at the beachfront terrace, beach walk afterward. The food quality supports the evening without being the argument; the setting is the argument. For a couple who has been dating for two or three months, this is the evening that moves the conversation somewhere new.
