360 Ella

360 Ella is the rooftop restaurant of the 360 Ella Homestay on Main Street — Ella's single best non-hotel fine-dining room and, on value, one of the strongest restaurants in the Sri Lankan hill country. The rooftop sits three storeys above Main Street and gives a 270-degree view of Ella Gap, Little Adam's Peak, and the tea plantations rolling west.

The dining space is an open terrace with a covered pavilion for cooler evenings. Tables are wooden, seating is banquette-and-chair, the lighting is low; capacity is about thirty, and the room fills nightly from 7 PM. The cooking is Sri Lankan fusion — classical rice-and-curry alongside Western plates that use local produce. Signatures include the Ella-pepper prawn, the slow-braised lamb curry, the house-baked bread with spice butter, and a grilled whole fish that changes with the catch. The kitchen will build around dietary restrictions with a day's notice.

The wine list is short but real — six reds, four whites, and a rosé, weighted to Indian and Australian producers. The arrack programme is the best in town, with six producers including local small-batch distillers. Cocktails are Sri Lankan-pivoted: the Ella Passion (arrack, passion fruit, kithul) is the signature.

Service is warm, young, and engaged — the brigade is village-hired and knowledgeable about the estate sourcing. The restaurant accepts reservations for dinner; in peak season, walk-ins wait thirty minutes for a rooftop table. Closed during heavy monsoon nights.

360 Ella is the first-date room in Ella for the couple who are staying in town rather than at a cliffside hotel. The rooftop sunset, the Sri Lankan plates that invite sharing, the Ella Passion cocktail, the unhurried pace — the room does the work at a price that leaves room for the second date. For team dinners of six to ten, the long rooftop table at the western end is the book; for birthdays, the kitchen will build a cake finish with a day's notice.
