About DZ'Envies
DZ'Envies sits on Rue Odebert, directly opposite Dijon's covered market (Les Halles). Chef-patron David Zuddas opened the restaurant in 2008 and holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand — the designation for restaurants offering meals at very good value, retained continuously since 2014.
The operating model is defined by the market across the street. Zuddas or his sous-chef walks the market each morning at 07:00 and builds the lunch menu around what is available that day; dinner tracks a more stable quarterly card. The lunch formule at €25 (two courses) is the best-value quality lunch in central Dijon.
The menu is modern bistrot — classical Burgundian technique lightly updated with Mediterranean and Asian accents where they work. Expect œufs en meurette (a Burgundian staple, done with a Pommard reduction), bœuf bourguignon that rotates between classic and modern interpretations, and a surprisingly precise fish programme built around Saône and Mediterranean catch.
The dining room seats 55 — a larger scale than the starred restaurants — across the ground-floor bistro and a quieter first-floor room that opens onto a small balcony over Rue Odebert. The wine list runs to 200 references with a particular generosity in the €35-60 range, rare for a Dijon bistrot.
Why It's Perfect for First Date
DZ'Envies is Dijon's first-date bistrot and team-dinner default. The 55-seat room absorbs group bookings comfortably, the €25 lunch formule makes informal business lunches easy, and the Burgundian wine list gives the table a genuine regional anchor without fine-dining prices. For close-a-deal dinners where the client wants Burgundian food rather than tasting-menu theatre, this is the city's correct choice.
