About Belgravian Brasserie

Belgravian Brasserie opened in March 2022 on the ground floor of the Al Matal complex on the Alkurnaish seafront in Al Khobar, a short drive from Dammam. The concept sets out to marry the cuisine of France's famed brasseries with the dining culture of London's upmarket Belgravia, and the room delivers it: art-deco styling, classic banquettes, white linens and brass finishes give it an ultra-European feel rare in the Eastern Province.

The menu reads like a Parisian brasserie. Executive chef Vergan Roberts points first-timers to the steak frites with a signature sauce and the flounder à la meunière, with a quinoa salad with tamarind dressing for vegetarians. Around them sit French onion soup, moules frites, oyster platters and — for the biggest occasions — Beluga caviar. Smaller plates are priced accessibly for the setting: escargots and a plate of three fresh oysters each run about $40, and truffle scrambled eggs around $21.

The room runs from breakfast through dinner — croissants from about $5, an afternoon tea from around $64 — which makes it as useful for a daytime business meeting as for an evening out. As with all Eastern Province dining, the kingdom's no-alcohol policy means the bar programme is built on mocktails, fresh juices and a serious coffee list rather than wine.

Reservations are recommended for weekend evenings, when the Matal seafront is busy. The restaurant accepts cards and handles vegetarian and halal requirements without fuss, and the Corniche location means a sea view is part of the deal.

Best Occasion Fit

For impressing visiting clients, the European art-deco room and the French menu flatter the guest in a culturally legible way. For closing a deal, the spaced tables and the seafront setting carry the right Eastern-Province business-dinner rhythm. For a birthday, the caviar-and-oysters end of the menu turns dinner into an event.

Not For

Belgravian Brasserie is not a budget or quick meal: smaller plates start around $40 and a full dinner with steak frites, seafood and caviar sits firmly at the top ($$$$) of the market. It is also not the place for anyone after a traditional Saudi or local-seafood experience — for that, Al Sanbok on the Corniche is the better call. And because the kingdom is dry, do not expect a wine list; the brasserie format runs on mocktails and juices instead.
