Donggang Seafood Restaurant occupies a low-rise on the Xinghai Bay coastline — the city's western coastline along the Bohai Bay, with the famous Xinghai Square's marble-arch promenade visible from the restaurant's bay-window seating. The restaurant has built its reputation as the city's reference mid-tier seafood destination with consistently fresh same-day catch and a reliable bay-view dining setting.
The signature dishes are the Bohai Bay standards. Steamed Bohai Bay Flounder (¥160) — same-day catch with ginger-and-scallion. Live Mantis Shrimp (¥140 per kilogram, sold by weight from the tank) — typically prepared in the Dalian-style spicy salt-and-pepper. Stir-Fried Scallop with Vegetables (¥120) — the local Bohai Bay scallops with seasonal greens and a small splash of soy. Sea Urchin Sashimi (¥80 per piece, when available). A multi-course meal for four with three seafood dishes, two sides, and rice runs ¥800-1,400.
The room is the architectural set-piece. The bay-window dining hall has continuous east-facing views over Xinghai Bay, with the marble-arch promenade and the surf visible at one hundred metres distance. Capacity is one hundred across the main hall plus four window-side private booths used for business and family entertaining. Sunset hour (6:30-7:30pm in summer) is the peak photographic moment.
Reservations matter for window seats on weekend evenings; one week ahead is enough. The restaurant accepts cards and English-speaking staff are present at the front-of-house. The wine list is short (twelve bottles) but includes both Chinese and French options.
