The Room

Zione Kitchen sits on the edge of Apsan Café Street, the leafy hillside district below Apsan Park. The room is on two levels; upstairs is a glass-walled hillside-view dining room; downstairs is an open kitchen built around a wood-fired oven. The restaurant opened in 2019 and quickly became the Italian reference point for the city.

The menu is a tight seasonal Italian — around fourteen dishes, rotated four times a year. Pastas are made in-house each morning; the signature is a cacio-e-pepe with local Gyeongsang-region cheese and a brown-butter twist that should not work and absolutely does. The wood-fired pizzas run Naples-style with local Korean-farm tomatoes. The secondi are short — two fish dishes, two meat dishes, all clearly plated, all priced reasonably.

The wine list is smartly assembled — around 120 bottles, heavily Italian, with a solid natural-wine section and a small Korean makgeolli list for adventurous pairings. Prices on the list are among the fairest in Daegu.

A full three-course dinner with wine runs ₩90,000 to ₩130,000 per head — very fair pricing by Korean fine-dining standards. Reservations via Catch Table; book one week ahead for weekends, walk-ins often available mid-week.

Why It's Best for First Date

For a First Date, Zione Kitchen is warm, softly lit, conversational, and universally likeable — Italian food carries almost no dietary risk, the room's hillside view rewards window seating, and the pricing is generous enough to make ordering freely an easy choice. The soundtrack is soft jazz and Italian pop; the noise floor is ideal for conversation.
