The Verdict
Citron sits on the InterContinental Sun Peninsula's cliffside, below the main resort and La Maison 1888, with the signature three 'bird-nest' dining pods cantilevered over the South China Sea. The pods — each seating four, woven in bamboo and thatch, designed by Bill Bensley — are the Instagram-famous architecture of Vietnamese luxury dining. The main dining room seats 80 across two levels; the pods seat 12 total and book first.
The menu is broader than La Maison 1888 and less formal — Vietnamese tasting selections, pho, grilled seafood platters, contemporary preparations that reference the central Vietnamese canon without turning it into a tasting exercise. Breakfast and lunch service are extensive (the resort's breakfast runs from Citron). Dinner is where the pods activate and the evening mood shifts toward the romantic.
Pricing runs VND 2,500,000–3,500,000 per person at dinner with moderate wine. The pods carry a VND 2,000,000 minimum spend in addition to the per-cover. Reservations for pods need two to three weeks ahead and require a deposit. Sunset booking (approximately 5:30pm in winter, 6:30pm in summer) is the maximum value; the light between sunset and dusk is the reason the pods exist.
Why It Works for Birthday
Citron's private-pod dining — the three cliffside 'bird-nest' dining pods, each seating four, with unbroken ocean views — is the defining luxury-dining experience on the Son Tra peninsula. The cooking is well-executed contemporary Vietnamese, but the pods are the reason to come. Reserve a pod specifically; general dining in the main restaurant doesn't deliver the same story.
