"Cairo's grandest Egyptian table: molokhiya, stuffed pigeon and Nile views that turn a working dinner into theatre."
About Zitouni
Zitouni is the Egyptian restaurant of the Four Seasons Cairo at Nile Plaza, and it has been a Garden City fixture since the riverfront hotel opened in 2004. Where most luxury-hotel dining rooms reach for French or Italian, Zitouni stays resolutely Egyptian — a serve-yourself spread of dozens of hot and cold mezze, charcoal grills and a dessert table, anchored by a kitchen that cooks the dishes Cairenes grew up eating.
The draw is the combination of genuine home-style cooking and a riverside setting most local institutions can't match. You come for molokhiya and leave having eaten your way through half of Egypt's pantry.
The Kitchen
The signature is molokhiya, the prized jute-leaf stew, served the traditional way alongside hamam mahshi — pigeon stuffed with spiced freekeh or rice. Lamb and okra, slow-cooked tagines and a charcoal grill round out the mains, while the mezze line carries dozens of cold and hot starters from tahini-rich dips to stuffed vine leaves.
This is a hotel kitchen cooking without a celebrity name attached, and that is the point: the food is judged on the molokhiya, not the marketing. Portions are generous and the dessert selection is vast.
The Room
The dining room runs along the Nile-facing edge of the hotel, with a terrace that is the seat to request at sunset. Interiors lean classic and formal — carved wood, soft lighting, white linen — making it as comfortable for a client dinner as for a family feast.
Service is attentive in the Four Seasons mould. For a quieter table, book the interior hall; for the view, ask for the terrace.
Best for Impressing Clients
Zitouni is built for impressing clients who want to taste real Egypt without leaving a five-star comfort zone. The Nile terrace, the mezze ritual and the calm service also make it a strong choice for an anniversary or an unhurried business lunch.
Not for
Not for travellers chasing inventive modern Egyptian cooking, or anyone wanting a quick, cheap, street-food version of these dishes — this is generous hotel dining at hotel prices.
