About Mejekawi
Mejekawi sits one floor above Ku De Ta on Seminyak Beach and runs as a counter-only chef's table for eighteen guests per evening. The name (Balinese for 'kitchen counter') is literal — diners face the open kitchen across a copper-clad pass, and chef I Made Putra Yasa narrates each course directly.
The fourteen-course tasting menu reframes Indonesian regional cuisine through avant-garde technique — a smoked sambal matah aerated into foam, slow-cooked lamb shoulder rendered with Banda Islands nutmeg, an aged-rice dessert plated with local palm sugar and frozen tamarillo. The kitchen runs five chefs in tight choreography; expect dry ice, smoke domes, and tableside finishing on at least four courses.
It is celebratory by design. Birthdays, anniversaries, milestone dinners — the team will arrange a personalised menu card, a closing dessert with candle and sparkler, and a small gift on the way out. The room is high-energy but not loud; the kitchen sounds become part of the soundtrack.
Bookings open six weeks ahead via the Ku De Ta website. Two seatings — 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM — Tuesday through Sunday. The wine pairing is excellent and worth the up-charge; the non-alcoholic pairing of Indonesian-spice infusions is among the island's best. Dress smart-casual to evening.
Best Occasion Fit
Birthday-Bali at its most photogenic — the kitchen is the show, the chef knows your name by course three, and the eighteen-seat counter ensures every guest has a story to tell about the smoke dome that landed in front of them.
