About Mugam Klub
Mugam Klub is the dining room inside a restored 14th-century caravanserai in the UNESCO Walled City, two minutes' walk from Sahil. The building is one of the most architecturally spectacular spaces in Baku — a two-storey stone courtyard with a central open atrium, flame-lit in the evening, and a live ensemble that performs mugam (the classical UNESCO-inscribed Azerbaijani improvisational vocal music) for most of dinner service.
The cooking is confident traditional Azerbaijani, slightly less refined than Firuze but with a larger kitchen output suited to the event-capacity of the room. The saj mixed grill is the signature table dish (a wrought-iron platter of mixed meats and vegetables brought flaming to the table); the lamb plov is a reliable second choice; dolma, kebab and kutab all hold up. Vegetable eaters are well served by the dovga (yoghurt and herb soup) and the grilled aubergine.
The reason to come is the mugam — the performances start around 20:00 and run for most of the dinner sequence. Azerbaijan inscribed mugam on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage and the Mugam Klub ensemble is among the most respected traditional groups in the country. The experience is genuinely transporting even for visitors who arrive without any knowledge of the form.
Lunch and dinner; the live performance runs only at dinner. Reservations strongly advised for weekend nights. Request a second-level gallery table for the best view of the performance and the courtyard.
Why It's Perfect for Team Dinner
Mugam Klub is Baku's team-dinner room. The caravanserai setting handles groups of 8–16 comfortably; the live mugam performance is a shared focal point that naturally encourages the group to sit and stay; the saj platter is a communal dish that works perfectly for team dining. Book the upper-gallery tables for the quietest conversation during performance intervals. For birthdays the setting is hard to beat in Baku; the staff will bring a lit cake and a short mugam dedication if requested in advance.
