About Restaurante Alcides

Alcides opened in 1964 and has served essentially the same menu ever since. It is the definitive Ponta Delgada steakhouse — three rooms, dark wood, tile mural, paper-mat tables, and the unmistakable roar of a cast-iron pan landing at every table. The bife à Alcides is the dish: a thick slab of Azorean beef, pan-seared, finished with garlic butter and a raw egg yolk, served sizzling on a blackened iron plate with a mountain of fries and a carafe of Azorean red.

The cooking is not subtle and does not pretend to be. The beef is the story: Azorean cattle graze on pasture so volcanic-fed it marbles without grain, and the loin at Alcides is aged in-house for ten days. A second-generation owner still works the floor on Friday nights. The wine list is short, honest and heavily local. You will leave smelling of garlic.

Alcides is where islanders bring islanders — birthdays, new jobs, prodigal children home from Boston and Toronto. For a business dinner with local partners it is the gesture that signals you are not just another Lisbon flight-in; you have asked someone what the city actually eats.

Why It's Perfect for Team Dinner

For a Team Dinner: Alcides' long-table rooms, sizzling theatre, and forgiving price mean you can seat eight, order two bottles, and still leave for under €60 a head. The crew will remember the smoke, the iron pans, and the ritual of the garlic butter hitting the hot meat. It is the antidote to the characterless hotel restaurant.
