Monday is the trap night in Austin. Uchi locks the door, Franklin Barbecue is long sold out, and half of East Austin's tasting rooms go dark to give the line cooks a weekend. The rooms below trade Monday anyway, and they range from the city's grande-dame fine-dining room to a masa-obsessed taqueria.
Jeffrey's
Austin's grande-dame fine-dining room in Clarksville, open Monday when the city's tasting menus go dark. Order the truffle deviled eggs.
Jeffrey's on West Lynn Street in Clarksville is the closest thing Austin has to a white-tablecloth institution, a part-French, part-American-steakhouse room that has anchored the neighbourhood for decades. The truffle deviled eggs and the tableside service are the signatures.
It serves Monday dinner, which is the rare thing at this level in Austin, where most ambitious kitchens close at the start of the week. That makes it the obvious Monday choice for a celebration or a client dinner.
It is a dress-up room by Austin standards, so book ahead and lean into the occasion.

Clark's Oyster Bar
The Clarksville oyster bar that launched the empire, open Monday for lunch and dinner. A plateau and a martini, any Monday.
Clark's on West 6th Street is the small, white-and-navy oyster bar that grew into a national group, and the original is still the best of them. Oysters, a chilled seafood plateau and a proper martini are the order.
Monday hours run lunch from 11:00 to 15:00 and dinner from 15:00 to 22:00, a full day of service. That makes it one of the most reliable Monday tables in central Austin.
Seats at the marble bar are the move if you are eating solo or could not get a booth.

Perla's
South Congress oysters on the prettiest patio in town, open Monday lunch and dinner. The easy, reliable Monday seafood table.
Perla's on South Congress is the Clark's group's sun-drenched seafood room, with one of the best patios in Austin under a canopy of oak trees. Gulf oysters, whole grilled fish and a long raw bar carry the menu.
Monday lunch runs from 11:30 to 15:00 and dinner from 17:30, so the kitchen covers the full day. On a warm Monday the patio is the reason to go.
It is walkable from the South Congress hotels and shops, which makes it an easy Monday for visitors.

Suerte
Fermin Nunez's masa-driven East Austin Mexican, open Monday when most kitchens rest. Book it for the suadero and the tetela.
Suerte on East 6th Street built its reputation on an in-house masa program, nixtamalising its own corn for the tortillas and tetelas that anchor the menu. Chef Fermin Nunez has made it one of the most decorated rooms in the city.
It serves Monday dinner, a genuine rarity for an ambitious East Austin kitchen, most of which take the night off. The suadero taco and the masa-driven snacks are the dishes to build a meal around.
Bar seats turn faster than the dining room, so it is a fair Monday walk-in if you arrive early.

Eberly
A big, handsome South Lamar room with easy Monday reservations. The low-stress Monday booking when you have not planned ahead.
Eberly on South Lamar is a large, good-looking modern American room with a restored historic bar shipped in from New York at its centre. The glazed pork chop and the scallops are reliable orders.
It serves Monday dinner, and because the room is sizeable, reservations are easy to come by even at short notice. That makes it the stress-free Monday choice when nowhere else has a table.
The Cedar Tavern bar is worth a drink before or after, especially mid-week when it is quiet.

Odd Duck
Bryce Gilmore's farm-to-table South Lamar original, open Monday for the snack-heavy menu. The Austin Monday for serious eaters.
Odd Duck on South Lamar is Bryce Gilmore's farm-to-table flagship, the restaurant that grew out of a food trailer and helped define modern Austin cooking. The menu runs to small, ingredient-driven plates meant for sharing.
It serves Monday dinner, which puts a genuinely creative kitchen on the table at the start of the week. Order widely across the snacks and small plates rather than committing to a single main.
It sits a short walk from Eberly, so the two make a natural South Lamar pairing if one is full.

Closed Monday: book another night
Austin rooms that close on Monday
Uchi. Tyson Cole's flagship non-traditional Japanese room on South Lamar is closed Sunday and Monday, serving Tuesday to Saturday. Book it later in the week, or go to Suerte for a Monday.
Hestia. Kevin Fink's live-fire New American room downtown opens Wednesday to Sunday and is dark Monday and Tuesday. Plan it for midweek or the weekend instead.
How to dine out on a Monday in Austin
Austin's Monday problem is real: the marquee tasting rooms and the barbecue temples mostly close. The workaround is to know the handful of serious kitchens that trade Monday anyway. Jeffrey's covers the fine-dining end, Clark's and Perla's handle seafood with long Monday hours, and Suerte and Odd Duck keep genuinely creative cooking on the table.
Reservations are easiest at the larger rooms, Eberly above all, while Clark's and Suerte hold bar seats for walk-ins. For a fuller view of where to eat across the week, start with our Austin dining guide and the solo-dining and impress-clients occasion lists below.
