About Zilte

Zilte occupies the top floor of the MAS — the Museum aan de Stroom, the copper-clad landmark at the edge of Antwerp's harbour district. The dining room is at the ninth-floor level with full 360-degree views across the city and the Scheldt, and seats just 40 covers across two services per night. Chef Viki Geunes opened the restaurant in 2007 with two stars; Zilte was promoted to three stars in the 2021 Michelin Guide and has retained the third star through the 2026 edition.

The cooking is contemporary European — a term Geunes prefers over 'modernist' — and the signatures are technique-dense without being cold. The langoustine preparation changes every two months but always involves an acid element and a charred element; the signature cheese course is an aged Gouda from a single named producer paired with truffle honey; the dessert programme is led by pastry chef Jef Mennes, whose chocolate constructions are the single most-photographed plates in the room. The format is a single tasting menu — six or ten courses — with no à la carte.

The dining room is dark — polished wood, bronze, minimal overhead lighting with directional spots at each table — and the kitchen is visible through a glass wall behind the pass. Service is led by director Viviane Baelen and is perhaps the most personal in the Benelux; Geunes and his wife Viviane are on the floor throughout service, and a dinner typically includes three or four chef interactions.

Lunch tasting is €240 for six courses; dinner tasting is €320 for six or €420 for ten. Pairings are +€175 for the standard flight or +€290 for the cellar flight. The restaurant operates a strict reservation system with full pre-authorisation; a cancellation requires 96 hours' notice to avoid charge.

Why It's Perfect for Proposal

Zilte is the Benelux proposal restaurant. The ninth-floor view, the 40-cover room, the technical density, the three stars — every element is calibrated for a once-in-a-lifetime dinner. Reserve the 7.30pm sitting in spring or autumn to catch the sunset on the MAS's copper facade as viewed from the dining room. For a proposal, the single two-person table at the far end of the room is the seat.
