The Verdict

Nur sits within the Fairmont Amman, the five-star property on the Fifth Circle that has become a standard destination for the city's middle-generation diplomatic and corporate community. The restaurant's cooking is Lebanese in the full canonical sense — not Jordanian and not pan-Levantine-fusion, but specifically the cooking of Beirut and Mount Lebanon as it has been exported into Jordan through both refugee history and the hotel-chef network.

The mezze section is extensive and executed at reference quality: hummus, moutabal, fattoush, kibbe nayyeh (raw lamb tartare, the test of a serious Lebanese kitchen), and the cheese-and-walnut boreks. The grill section handles the full lamb and chicken mashawi repertoire, plus the whole sea bass in salt crust. The dessert programme is anchored on knefeh — the salty-cheese-and-syrup pastry from Nablus — and baklava.

The dining room divides into an indoor section with traditional mashrabiya screenwork and an outdoor terrace that opens from April through October. The terrace is Amman's most photogenic hotel-restaurant exterior setting — the seven-hills skyline drops away to the east — and is the default request for birthday dinners and proposal-adjacent celebrations. Dinner with a Lebanese wine bottle lands around JOD 75 per person.

Why it works for Birthday

For a birthday dinner — the kind where the occasion wants a Levantine-specific setting without going to Beirut — Nur's terrace is the answer. The cooking is celebratory by tradition. The mezze format scales to any group size. The service handles cake presentations gracefully, and the terrace view provides the photograph that will anchor the evening in memory.
