Al Noukhaza Restaurant

The Syrian brothers' seafood house — Aleppo-spiced fish stews, a mezze programme that takes the Levantine canon seriously, and the Souq's best corner-terrace.

The Verdict

Al Noukhaza occupies the corner of the inner Souq Al Wakrah courtyard and runs a Syrian-Qatari seafood programme that distinguishes it meaningfully from the more Qatari-traditional Danat Al Bahar next door. The kitchen is operated by a family with Aleppo roots and the Syrian influence is visible in the mezze section and in the use of muhammara, za'atar, and the proper Aleppo chilli across the grills.

The seafood programme includes the expected Gulf fish grilled or fried — hamour, sheri, shrimp — plus a distinguishing sayadieh (the classic Levantine fish-and-rice dish, with the fish braised in a deeply caramelised-onion-and-spice broth), which is the single most interesting dish on any Al Wakrah menu. The mezze section runs the full Syrian carte: hummus, baba ghanoush, tabbouleh, muhammara, makdous, and the exceptional Syrian kibbe nayyeh when the kitchen has the right lamb.

The dining room divides between an indoor hall and an outdoor terrace that faces across the Souq's waterfront promenade. The terrace in the November-through-April cool season is the Souq's best outdoor corner. Dinner runs around QAR 200 per person. Service is warm, family-style, bilingual in Arabic and English.

Why it works for Close a Deal

For a quiet deal-making dinner — a business meeting that wants a less-formal setting than the Doha fine-dining hotels but still serious cooking and acoustic privacy — Al Noukhaza's terrace corners are the correct answer. The Syrian cuisine's inherent mezze-and-share format scales well across different meeting personalities. And the Souq location allows the evening to extend naturally into a walk along the waterfront after dinner.
