Top 50 Rooftop Restaurants Worldwide

Sky-bar towers above the 100th floor, hotel rooftops at the top of the Spanish Steps, three-storey riad terraces in the Marrakech medina, and infinity pool decks 1,200 feet above the Amalfi Coast. The fifty rooms below are ranked, reviewed, and paired with a long form deep dive on the floor, the skyline, the terrace format, and how to book the sunset slot.

At a glance

The fifty best rooftop restaurants worldwide are led by Atmosphere on the 122nd floor of the Burj Khalifa, Sirocco Bangkok at the State Tower 63rd floor, La Pergola Rome with the Vatican dome, and Manhatta NYC at the 60th floor of 28 Liberty. The list spans 24 cities across 11 regional clusters. Rome supplies four; Istanbul, London, and Athens three each.

The rooftop dinner is the most universally shared dining occasion in fine dining tourism. The query 'best rooftop restaurants' returns sixty million results, the second most-searched dining query worldwide. The category is currently dominated by garbage listicles that recycle the same dozen names. The fifty rooms below are not those.

The fifty are ranked on six rooftop-specific variables: the floor or height itself (122nd floor at Atmosphere down to ground-with-glass-roof at Figueira Rubaiyat); the skyline or landmark in the view (Vatican dome at La Pergola, Acropolis at Electra and GB Roof, Eiffel Tower at L'Oiseau Blanc, Burj al Arab at CE LA VI Dubai); the terrace format (open rooftop terrace, indoor with floor to ceiling glass, infinity pool deck, three-storey stacked riad terraces); the weather calibration (year round indoor, terrace season May to October, monsoon-closed sky bars); the best table specification; and the seasonal window when the rooftop reads strongest.

Each entry below links to two further pages: the restaurant's full directory page on Restaurants for Kings, and a dedicated long form deep dive that covers the rooftop, the best table, the season, and how to coordinate the booking so the sunset lands.

Sky-High Towers (above 50th floor)

The first tier of rooftop dining sits above the 50th floor. Atmosphere on the 122nd floor of the Burj Khalifa held the title of world's highest dining room for many years. Sirocco at Lebua State Tower Bangkok 63rd floor, Vertigo Moon Bar at Banyan Tree 61st, CE LA VI at Address Beach Resort Dubai 54th, Manhatta NYC 60th, Rainbow Room at Rockefeller 65th, Tin Lung Heen ICC Hong Kong 102nd, Aer Mumbai 34th, Terraço Italia São Paulo 41st, Art at One Altitude Singapore 62nd. Ten rooms across seven cities at the top of the global skyline.

Methodology, How We Ranked the Fifty

The ranking is editorial, not algorithmic. We weighted six variables specifically against the rooftop brief: the floor or height, the skyline or landmark in the view, the terrace format, the weather calibration, the best table specification, and the seasonal window when the rooftop reads strongest. None of these variables alone qualifies a restaurant for the list. A 100th floor restaurant facing a wall of an adjacent building does not qualify. A clifftop terrace whose seating closes at 6 PM in summer does not qualify. The fifty rooms below clear all six thresholds simultaneously.

Rome supplies four of the fifty rooftops, the largest single city contingent. The Italian hotel rooftop category (La Pergola, Aroma, Imago, La Terrazza Eden) plus three more across Italy (Angel Roofbar Florence, Terrazza Triennale Milan, La Minerva Capri, Belvedere Caruso Ravello) makes Italy the largest single-country contingent at eight rooms. Istanbul contributes four (Mikla, Spago, 360, Tugra). London three (Aqua Shard, Hutong The Shard, Duck and Waffle). Bangkok three sky-bar towers (Sirocco, Vertigo, Breeze). Athens three Acropolis-view rooftops. Cape Town three Atlantic-edge rooftops. Marrakech four medina riad rooftops. New York two (Manhatta, Rainbow Room). New Delhi three. Dubai two (Atmosphere, CE LA VI). The remaining nine span Sydney, Tokyo, São Paulo, Singapore, Mumbai, Cairo, Vienna, Lisbon (three rooms across Lisbon), Paris, Hong Kong.

How to Book the Rooftop Dinner

Specify the table at booking. Each entry above lists the canonical best table: rooftop terrace edge, window-line dining banquette, infinity pool edge, or covered-roof window. Request it explicitly. Without the specification, you may be seated in the back of the room with the rooftop view obscured.

Time the season correctly. Sky-high tower restaurants (Atmosphere, Aqua Shard, Hutong The Shard, Manhatta, Rainbow Room, Tin Lung Heen, Kozue, Fifty Seconds) run year round indoors. Mediterranean cliff terraces operate April or May to October. Bangkok rooftop sky bars peak November to February. Marrakech riad rooftops operate October to April; closed in summer. Match the booking to the seasonal window.

Confirm the weather window. For terrace and rooftop restaurants without an indoor backup, confirm with the restaurant the day before the booking that the weather is on. Many sky bars (Sirocco, Vertigo, Breeze) and Mediterranean cliff terraces close the outdoor section in heavy rain, wind, or storm. The Bangkok sky bars in particular are weather sensitive.

Book sunset. The canonical rooftop dinner books the sunset slot. The light register at sunset, the way the city lights or the sea reflects gold, the way the architectural icon catches the last light. Most rooms book at 7 PM or 7:30 PM in spring and autumn, 8 PM or 8:30 PM in summer, and 6 PM in winter. Specify the sunset slot at booking.

Coordinate the lead time. Top tier rooftops (Atmosphere Burj Khalifa, Sirocco Bangkok, La Pergola Rome, Aqua Shard, Hutong The Shard, Manhatta NYC) book eight to twelve weeks ahead for prime sunset slots. For terrace season Mediterranean rooftops, book the hotel night first; the restaurant booking follows.

Stay for blue hour. The rooftop dinner changes register during the meal. The terrace at sunset reads gold; by the time dessert arrives the city has switched to night lighting. Plan the meal to span both registers: arrive at sunset, stay through blue hour, leave once the night lighting has fully come up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best rooftop restaurant in the world?

Atmosphere on the 122nd floor of the Burj Khalifa Dubai held the title of world's highest dining room for many years. Sirocco at Lebua State Tower Bangkok 63rd floor is the most consistently photographed sunset rooftop. La Pergola Rome carries the highest culinary scoring (the only three Michelin in the city, on the Monte Mario rooftop with St Peter's dome at the horizon). Each clears the rooftop test on a different variable: altitude, sunset light, or kitchen tier.

What is the highest rooftop restaurant in the world?

Atmosphere on the 122nd floor of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai held the record for many years (442 metres up). The room sits inside the world's tallest building with floor to ceiling glass on every side, looking out across all of Dubai, the Persian Gulf, and the Arabian Desert.

How far in advance should I book?

For top tier rooftops, plan eight to twelve weeks ahead for prime sunset slots. Marrakech medina rooftops, four to eight weeks. Athens Acropolis-view rooftops, four to eight weeks. Each entry above lists specific lead times.

What if it rains?

Open terrace rooftops without a roof close in heavy rain or wind, with no indoor backup. Hotel rooftops with a covered alternative operate the indoor backup when the terrace closes. Floor to ceiling glass tower restaurants operate year round indoors regardless of weather.

Can rooftop restaurants run year round?

Indoor sky-high rooftops run year round. Bangkok rooftop sky bars peak November to February. Mediterranean cliff terraces operate April or May to October. Marrakech riad rooftops operate October to April. Match the booking to the seasonal window.
