About Karst Cafe Yangshuo
Karst Cafe is one of the more-recommended West Street kitchens specialising in Yangshuo stuffed tofu (Yangshuo Niang Doufu) — the regional Hakka-influenced preparation where small silken tofu blocks are stuffed with seasoned ground pork or mushroom, then steamed or simmered in pork-bone stock with seasonal greens. The dish has been a Yangshuo signature since the Ming Dynasty when Hakka migrants settled the area, and Karst Cafe has been making the Yangshuo version since 2007.
The signature is the Stuffed-Tofu Set at ¥45 — six tofu pillows (alternating pork-stuffed and mushroom-stuffed) simmered in pork-bone stock with seasonal greens, served on a small ceramic plate with rice and a small portion of stir-fried bamboo or seasonal vegetable. The premium Tofu-and-Beer-Fish Set runs ¥120 and pairs the stuffed tofu with a half-portion of the beer fish.
Beyond the tofu, the kitchen runs a wider Yangshuo-Guangxi specialty menu — beer fish (¥110), Guilin rice noodles (¥15 lunch service only), Yangshuo-style stir-fried bamboo (¥35), bamboo-steamed taro (¥45), river-shrimp stir-fry (¥65), and a strong rice-and-soybean dessert programme. A meal of stuffed tofu, beer fish, and a small bamboo dish for two runs ¥160-220.
The room is small and casual — twenty-eight seats across a single open dining hall plus a small streetside terrace, with bay windows facing West Street's pedestrian flow. Walk-ins always work outside Chinese-national-holiday peaks. English menus are universal and the staff speak basic functional English. Cards are accepted.
