About L'Opera

L'Opera is Yangon's best-known Italian restaurant, set in an old colonial building among manicured gardens on the romantic shore of Inya Lake. It opened in 1997 and has long been the city's go-to address for a special Italian dinner, run under an Italian managing director and an Italian chef and recognised across the years by the Myanmore Dining & Nightlife Awards.

It is the European fine-dining anchor in Yangon, alongside the French Le Planteur.

The Kitchen

The kitchen turns out homemade pastas and authentic wood-fired pizzas alongside Italian cold cuts, cheeses and fresh salads, using quality imported and local produce — signatures include mushroom ravioli with spinach, beef lasagne and burrata with bruschetta. It is classic Italian cooking rather than a tasting-menu kitchen, and an in-house Italian bakery opened at the entrance in 2012.

For a contrasting fine-dining evening, the French Le Planteur is another of the city's destination tables.

The Room

The draw is the setting: a restored colonial villa with terraces and lakeside gardens looking over Inya Lake, lit warmly at night for unhurried dinners. There is indoor seating and a much-loved outdoor garden, and service is attentive in the old-school European style.

Best for an anniversary

The lakeside colonial villa, candlelit garden and classic Italian menu make L'Opera a romantic anniversary table in Yangon, while the polished service and private space also suit impressing clients.

Not for

Not for a quick or budget bite — L'Opera is a destination Italian restaurant with a special-occasion setting and prices, not a casual everyday stop.
