The Room
Carlos Delgado opened Causa in Blagden Alley in 2022 — a Peruvian chef-driven tasting-menu room dedicated to the proposition that DC needed a serious Peruvian-Nikkei fine-dining destination. The Michelin DC guide awarded Causa One Star in 2023.
The dining room is small and intentional — exposed brick, twenty-eight seats, an open kitchen at the back. The format is intentionally tasting-only at $185 per person.
The Food
The tasting menu rotates with the seasonal harvest — the kitchen draws from Peruvian corn and potato traditions, Pacific seafood, and Japanese-influenced (Nikkei) preparations. The tiradito-and-ceviche programme is the meal's centre.
Pisco programme is one of America's deepest. Cocktail bench is short and Peruvian-spice-led. Wine programme is short, weighted toward Riesling. Service is informed and warm.
Best Occasion Fit
First Date: The counter at Causa is one of Shaw's most-considered first-date seats. The tasting menu structures the conversation.
Impress Clients: International visitors recognise the Michelin-starred Peruvian-Nikkei format immediately.
Birthday: Birthdays at Causa are warm, tasting-menu-led, Peruvian-Nikkei affairs the room handles with three years of practice.
