About Wuyi Night Market Food Stalls

The Wuyi Night Market Food Stalls are Urumqi's reference late-night dining destination — the Wuyi Road area opens at 8pm with about forty Xinjiang street-food stalls operating until 2am, providing the city's primary post-dinner-and-drinks food anchor for both Urumqi-resident young-professionals and visiting Chinese-tourist travellers.

The most-recommended stalls specialise in different regional dishes: a Lamb Kebab Stall (¥8-15 per skewer), a Samsa Stand (¥10-15 per piece), a Big Plate Chicken Stall (¥40-80 per portion, smaller than a restaurant platter), a Mutton-Bone Soup Stand (¥18 per bowl), a Hand-Pulled Laghman Stand (¥25 per bowl), a Sweet Date-and-Walnut Vendor (¥10-20 per portion).

The format is street-market — pick stalls by visible food and queue length, sit on small bench-and-stool seating provided by each stall, share orders across the table with companions. A typical evening visit eats three or four dishes from different stalls and totals ¥40-80 per person.

Walk-ins are the format's only access. The market operates Monday-Sunday with the heaviest crowds on Friday-Saturday evenings (the queue at the most-popular Big Plate Chicken stalls can run thirty minutes during peak Chinese-tourist seasons). Cash is preferred at most stalls; English signage is rare but the food is universally understandable by pointing.

Best Occasion Fit

Solo travellers — bench seat with three small dishes from different stalls, ¥50 bill, the proper Urumqi late-evening anchor. For team dinners after a Bazaar day or as the post-dinner anchor of a longer Urumqi evening, the night-market format works for four to six. As a first date with travel-curious partners, the multi-stall walking-and-eating format gives the meal a built-in adventure.
