The Lighthouse Pub & Cellar — Pub / Seafood, Swakopmund

The Lighthouse Pub & Cellar occupies the base of Swakopmund's historic lighthouse — a colonial-era structure that has guided ships safely past the Skeleton Coast's notorious reef since 1902. The pub below has been feeding and watering the town's residents and visitors with equal commitment.

The calamari is the kitchen's signature — Benguela squid, fresh from the cold Atlantic, prepared simply and correctly: crumbed and fried to the right colour, served with lemon and the house tartar sauce. The Benguela's cold water produces squid of a quality and texture that warm-water calamari cannot match.

The lighthouse position means the pub has natural views of the Skeleton Coast to both north and south — the fog-shrouded coastal strip that has claimed more ships than any comparable length of coastline in the world. Eating calamari from these waters while watching the same waters is a connection that the Lighthouse makes literal.

The cellar section, below the main pub, provides the most atmospheric dining environment — stone walls, low ceilings, and the sense of being underground while hearing the Atlantic above. It is unique in Namibia.

Best Occasion: Great for Group Birthdays

The lighthouse setting, Benguela calamari for the group, cold Windhoek rounds, and the Skeleton Coast visible through the windows. The most specifically Swakopmund birthday table.

Best Occasion: Works for Team Dinners

The cellar atmosphere, shared calamari platters, and the Skeleton Coast history provided by the lighthouse above. Team dinners here carry genuine Namibian coastal character.
