About Oaxen Slip

Oaxen Slip sits at Beckholmsvagen 26 on the green island of Stockholm Djurgarden, in a restored bright-yellow shipyard on the water. It anchors part of our Stockholm coverage as the city's most characterful casual table.

It is the relaxed sister to chef Magnus Ek's two-Michelin-star Oaxen Krog next door, opened with Agneta Green in 2013 when the pair moved Oaxen from its original archipelago island. The Slip has held a Bib Gourmand since that year.

The Kitchen

The cooking is new-Nordic gastropub fare, mostly Scandinavian and strong on fish, with inventive vegetable plates such as whole baked celeriac or Swedish beans with roasted flax. Sharing plates anchor the menu, and the Sunday roast has a reputation as one of the best in Stockholm.

A standout weekend brunch leans on cured ham, smoked salmon and potato dishes. Prices are mid-range for a Bib Gourmand kitchen of this standard.

The Room

The room is the headline: a triple-height former boathouse with old wooden fishing boats hung from the rafters, all warm timber and water views. It is dramatic without being formal.

It works for a relaxed dinner, a group or a solo seat at the bar as easily as a long Sunday lunch. Book ahead at weekends, when the brunch and roast fill the room.

Best for a relaxed date or a sharing-plate group

Oaxen Slip suits a relaxed first date, a sharing team dinner or a contented solo seat. For other Stockholm tables, compare Oaxen Krog, Ekstedt and Pelikan.

Not for

Not for a hushed fine-dining evening or a tasting-menu occasion — for that, its two-star sister Oaxen Krog next door is the room. The Slip is the casual side.
