The Verdict
Shabestan is the long-running Persian restaurant at the Radisson Blu Sharjah — one of the emirate's oldest luxury hotels, set on the corniche adjacent to the Al Khan lagoon — and the room has operated continuously since the late 1990s, making it one of the most enduring fine-dining addresses in Sharjah. The name 'Shabestan' refers to the central covered hall of a traditional Persian mosque or palace; the restaurant's architecture echoes the reference, with vaulted ceilings, mosaic-tile panels, and Iranian carpets.
The cuisine is classical Iranian, served in the formal register of a hotel fine-dining room. The menu emphasises the cornerstones: chelo kebab (rice and kebab), fesenjan (walnut and pomegranate chicken stew), ghormeh sabzi (herb and lamb stew), aash reshteh (the celebrated Iranian legume-and-herb soup), and a significant lamb-and-rice section that includes zereshk polo, baghali polo, and albaloo polo (morello-cherry rice). Saffron is used liberally and with evident seriousness.
A trio of Iranian musicians performs live music several evenings a week — the set is traditional Persian rather than the tourist-circuit style that similar rooms across the UAE default to. The service includes tableside carving of lamb-shank preparations, saffron-rice plating, and a sweet-tea service at the close of the meal that the restaurant has run unchanged for a decade.
Shabestan's clientele is a mix of Sharjah's Iranian diaspora community (which is substantial) and Dubai diners who drive over for an authentic Persian evening in a way the DIFC equivalents cannot match. Reservations are advisable for weekend evenings but the restaurant is generally accessible on short notice. Alcohol service is available within the licensed Radisson Blu premises.
Why It Works for Birthday
Shabestan is the Sharjah restaurant for the evening that wants to feel classical. For a client dinner with Iranian counterparts, it is unambiguously the right choice. For an impressive birthday that respects Sharjah's more conservative dining register, the live music and the tableside service perform well.
