"Asilia's eastern-Serengeti camp pairs contemporary Tanzanian dinners with the highest cheetah density in East Africa — for a safari honeymoon or milestone trip."
About Namiri Plains
Namiri Plains is an Asilia Africa tented camp deep in the eastern Serengeti, in an area closed to tourism for two decades to protect its cheetah population. Reopened with Asilia as custodian and refurbished in 2019, it now runs eleven tented suites and two private retreats across some of the highest big-cat density in East Africa.
Dining here is part of the safari rather than a standalone restaurant, and it ranks among the finest camp tables in the Serengeti, in the company of the Four Seasons Safari Lodge and the ultra-luxe Singita Grumeti.
The Kitchen
Menus are written daily around fresh, local ingredients, billed as Tanzanian cooking with a contemporary turn: grilled meats, seasonal vegetables and spiced rice, with homemade bread alongside lunch and South African wines or a cold Serengeti beer to finish. Dinner is a three-course affair, and vegan and gluten-free options are handled on request.
The setting changes with each meal — a bush breakfast under acacias, lunch on your private deck, dinner under the stars — a different rhythm from a city restaurant such as the lodge-based andBeyond Serengeti Under Canvas.
The Room
The communal mess tent sits at the centre of camp, open to the plains, where guests gather around the fire to swap the day's sightings before dinner. Tables also set up on private decks or out in the bush under a canopy of stars, making the ‘room’ the Serengeti itself.
Best for an anniversary
Private-deck dinners, fireside evenings and bush breakfasts make Namiri Plains a once-in-a-lifetime anniversary or honeymoon, and the remote, romantic setting suits a memorable proposal on safari.
Not for
Not for a standalone restaurant visit — dining at Namiri Plains is part of an all-inclusive safari stay, served on camp schedule around morning and evening game drives.
