About Plenty of Clouds

Plenty of Clouds sits at 1550 15th Avenue at 15th and Pine on Seattle's Capitol Hill, in the former Anchovies & Olives space. It anchors part of our Seattle coverage and our Chinese guide as the city's most inventive Sichuan-Yunnan room.

Chef Travis Post, a Culinary Institute of America graduate who helped open Yunnan Kitchen in New York, opened it in 2018 as a family-run kitchen. The name joins Sichuan, the 'land of plenty', with Yunnan, 'south of the clouds'.

The Kitchen

The cooking draws on the neighbouring provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan, with travel-fed riffs rather than strict tradition. Pork dumplings are the most-ordered plate, alongside a reworked 'Not Your Ma-Po's Tofu', dry-fried chicken, lamb meatballs and sesame noodles.

Heat and Sichuan peppercorn run through the menu, balanced against Yunnan's herbs and sour notes. Prices are mid-range, and the format suits sharing across a table.

The Room

The room is small, homey and warm, a neighbourhood-scaled space rather than a banquet hall. Close tables and an open feel make it easy and casual.

It works for a relaxed dinner with friends or a shared spread. Book ahead at weekends, when the small room fills quickly.

Best for a casual date or a shared table

Plenty of Clouds suits a casual first date, a shared team dinner or a satisfying solo meal. For other Seattle rooms, compare Wild Ginger, Tai Tung and Kau Kau BBQ.

Not for

Not for diners after white-tablecloth fine dining or a quiet hushed room — it is a small, casual, family-run kitchen built around bold, shareable Sichuan and Yunnan plates.
