The Room
Nirmal Monteiro opened Nirmal's in Pioneer Square in 2017 — a Goan-Portuguese-influenced South Asian dining room dedicated to the proposition that central Seattle needed a serious South Asian fine-dining destination. The dining room is intentionally formal-Indian: hand-painted Indian-Goan folk art, a long bar at the front.
Eater Seattle has held Nirmal's on its top-Pioneer-Square rankings every year of operation.
The Food
The menu draws from across the Indian regional canon, with a Goan-Portuguese emphasis. The tandoor programme, the seasonal-rotating curries, the rice-and-bread programme run as the menu's spine.
Wine programme is short, weighted toward Riesling. Cocktails are Indian-spice-led.
