The Parisian Morning That Sarasota Needed
Mademoiselle Paris anchors 1605 Main Street with the specific ambition of importing a Parisian arrondissement morning into downtown Sarasota — and it succeeds often enough that the restaurant has grown into four locations across the Sarasota-Tampa corridor since its opening. The downtown flagship is the original and remains the best. Marble-top tables, tin ceilings, a pastry case at the entrance that does more marketing in twenty seconds than any sign could do in a month.
The bakery side is where the craft lives. Butter-laminated croissants pulled fresh through the morning rush. Pain au chocolat with properly distributed dark chocolate batons. Tarts — lemon, seasonal fruit, almond-cream — that rotate through the week and move fast. Macarons that are among the better examples in the state. Brioche that earns the bread section's top billing. If you have ever been served a mediocre pastry at a Florida café, Mademoiselle Paris reads like a correction.
The café side serves a full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu that extends French café conventions with relaxed confidence. Croque-monsieur built on house pain de mie. Niçoise salad with properly seared tuna. Steak frites for dinner that would not embarrass a bistro on the Rue de Rivoli. Wine list is short, French, and well-priced. The espresso program is the best on Main Street.
The fourth location, inside a Gulfport boutique hotel, opened in December 2025 with full liquor service — the downtown remains BYOB for wine with a small corkage. Service throughout is attentive but not fussy, which suits the format. Regulars know to arrive before 10 AM on weekends or wait; by noon the outdoor seats on Main Street are gone.
Best Occasion: Solo Dining
Mademoiselle Paris is one of the best solo-dining addresses in downtown Sarasota. The marble counter is the spot; a single diner with a book and a croissant looks less like someone eating alone than someone intentionally choosing the best seat in the house. Service treats solo guests the same as couples. Portion sizes suit an individual. The room provides enough quiet energy to work remotely without the laptop-café stigma. Morning is the best window. Order the croissant, the crème brûlée French toast, and a café crème, and stay until your hands warm up.
