About Plumed Horse

Plumed Horse sits on Big Basin Way in the small, oak-shaded village of Saratoga — a twenty-five minute drive from downtown San Jose that feels twice that long because you've left Silicon Valley behind somewhere around the second curve. The current incarnation opened in 2007, though the address has been home to a restaurant of the same name since 1952. Under chef Peter Armellino, it has held a Michelin star every year since 2009 — seventeen consecutive years of recognition that mark it as one of the Bay Area's great dining constants.

The kitchen works in the contemporary Californian idiom: sustainably sourced fish and shellfish, local organic produce, and technique that owes as much to France as to the farmers' market a few blocks away. The chef's tasting menu runs eight courses at $158 (a vegetarian version is $135, and an à la carte menu is also offered). What you come for is the black pepper and parmesan soufflé — served with uni and blue crab fondue — a dish that has become the restaurant's defining signature and the thing guests return for specifically. The tarragon potato gnocchi with lobster, chanterelles, and preserved Meyer lemon is the kind of plate that reminds you what a Michelin kitchen is actually capable of when it stops trying to be clever.

The dining room itself is warm, low-lit, and more contemporary than you expect for Saratoga — dark wood, metalwork screens, and a striking glass-enclosed wine tower holding one of the most celebrated cellars in Northern California. Service is precise but never cold. The sommelier team is exceptional, and the wine list has won multiple Wine Spectator Grand Awards. This is the room Silicon Valley uses when it needs to impress someone who cannot be impressed by a rooftop or a view — a restaurant that trades spectacle for substance, and wins every time.

Why Plumed Horse is Perfect for Impressing Clients

A Michelin star held for seventeen consecutive years is not an accident. It is the kind of longevity that signals something a starred opening cannot: that the kitchen is serious, that the ownership is serious, and that the experience has been refined by thousands of important dinners. Bring a client here and the reservation itself does half the work — Saratoga is the discerning pick, away from the Valley's obvious power rooms, which tells your guest that you know what you are doing. The chef's tasting menu format removes every logistical decision, the wine cellar is world-class, and the private dining room accommodates groups up to twenty-four when the deal requires a room of its own. For a deal-closing dinner, it is the Valley's most considered choice.
