About Gallis

Gallis is the fine-dining restaurant of Glass Resort, the extraordinary cluster of transparent villas on the edge of Santa Claus Village, and it has quietly become the table you take people to when you want Rovaniemi to stop being a theme park and start being a culinary destination. The room — heated cabin timber, black iron, low amber pendants, and a wall of glass aimed at the pines — settles the question before the bread arrives.

Chef Tommi Tuominen builds the menu around the herding year. Early winter means Arctic char with cloudberry and fermented cream; deep winter runs to reindeer heart tartare, pine-needle broth, smoked whitefish roe on charred rye. Late spring surrenders to birch sap gelées and the first forest mushrooms. The pacing is Nordic-exacting: ten courses in a disciplined two and a half hours, each one arriving exactly as the glass is drained.

The wine list is unusually interesting for Arctic Lapland — a serious Burgundy spine, a deep Alsace Riesling row, and a growing section of natural Finnish ciders and apple wines that pair better with the smokier meats than any red would. Sommelier Antti Kupila walks guests through it with the patience of a man who has had the same Australian table ask for Shiraz four nights in a row.

Service is Finnish-warm: quiet, prompt, invested. No theatre, no foam, no names dropped. You leave feeling like someone thought hard about every decision on the plate and the room lit itself for the occasion. Which, above the Arctic Circle, is often literally true.

Gallis is the Rovaniemi room built for the proposal, the milestone birthday, or the client you want to walk out of Lapland convinced they've just seen something nobody else has. The glass walls guarantee the aurora any clear night between late August and early April.
