The Restaurant
Joelia is the fine-dining restaurant of the Hilton Rotterdam on Coolsingel, the central avenue that runs past the Rotterdam City Hall. The restaurant earned its Michelin star in 2014 and has held it continuously; chef Sofiane Bons, promoted to executive chef in 2022, was named the Dutch Young Chef of the Year in 2024. Forty covers across a chic, urban room with a partial view onto Coolsingel.
The cooking is modern French with classical backbone. The signature courses include a hand-dived Dutch scallop with beurre blanc and cured egg yolk, a Bresse pigeon with morels in season, an elaborate cheese trolley that is rare in Rotterdam at this level. Tasting menus run at five, seven, or nine courses (€115, €155, €195) with extended wine pairings from a very serious 600-reference list.
Joelia's setting inside the Hilton gives it a natural business-visitor flow — aperitif in the hotel bar, dinner in the restaurant, a nightcap returning through the lobby — that more independent Rotterdam restaurants cannot replicate. The service is trained to international hotel standards; English, French, and German are all fluent; the room has been refurbished in 2024 to a more contemporary Scandi-minimal palette that has earned it wider critical attention.
Why This Is Rotterdam’s Impress Clients Pick
For impressing a client who is staying at the Hilton or nearby on Coolsingel, Joelia removes the transport question entirely. The Michelin-starred kitchen answers the quality question. The hotel setting handles practicalities: cloakroom, concierge, a quiet passage back to the room. Chef Bons's Young Chef of the Year 2024 win also gives the evening a genuine talking point that most Rotterdam Michelin-starred rooms cannot match.
