The Restaurant
Mirto is the rooftop restaurant of Hotel Avra in Rhodes New Town, five minutes walking from the Old Town's Gate of the Virgin. The dining deck sits on the ninth floor with an uninterrupted view across the medieval walls to the Old Town's domes and the harbour beyond. Thirty covers, all outdoor, all seasonal (April through October).
Chef Nikos Panagiotou cooks modern Greek in a light style suited to the rooftop: octopus with fava and pickled caper leaves, a grilled grouper with greens and lemon, a signature 'myrto' salad of local cheeses and pomegranate. The menu runs à la carte only; sensible ordering at three to four plates per person lands dinner around €65. A short list of lighter dishes and excellent cocktails makes this a serious bar destination as well.
The wine programme is a selected sixty references with particular interest in Greek natural-wine producers rarely seen in the islands — expect to find bottles from Papagiannakos, Oenogenesis, and Domaine Ligas. Service is polished, English-fluent, and fast. For an evening in Rhodes New Town with a genuine sense of place, Mirto is the current best answer.
Why This Is Rhodes’s First Date Pick
For a first date on Rhodes, Mirto's rooftop delivers the view, the drinks programme, and the à la carte flexibility that a first evening requires. The dress code is relaxed enough that the date feels easy; the setting is photogenic enough that it doesn't feel under-ambitious. A short Old Town walk through the Gate of the Virgin afterwards is the standard move.
