The Room
Le Saint-Amour opened in 1978 on rue Saint-Ursule in Old Quebec's Upper Town. Jean-Luc Boulay runs the kitchen and has held the classical-French Old Quebec address for over forty years. The most-photographed feature of the restaurant is the glass-roofed garden room — a former courtyard converted into a year-round dining space with retractable roof and a 1500-bottle wine cellar visible through one wall.
The dining room seats 110 across the main floor and the garden room. Service is brigade-French, formal and warm.
The Food
The kitchen runs French-classical with serious Quebec sourcing — Charlevoix lamb, foie gras with maple, Magdalen Islands seafood. Wine programme is one of Canada's deepest with 1500+ bottles in the cellar.
The five-course tasting at $165 with cellar pairings ($95) is the regular's order.
Best Occasion Fit
Proposal: The garden room at Le Saint-Amour, on a clear evening with the retractable roof open, is the most-photographed proposal location in Old Quebec. Notify the staff at booking; the kitchen and floor will arrange the moment.
Birthday: Le Saint-Amour handles birthdays with the warmth a Quebec institution should — the kitchen sends out a candle course; Boulay frequently signs the menu personally.
Impress Clients: International visitors recognise Le Saint-Amour's heritage and Old Quebec's UNESCO designation. The dinner translates the city correctly.
