The Verdict
Krishna's Kitchen sits at the far northern end of the Phewa Lakeside strip — a short drive (or a longer walk) from the main Lakeside centre, on a small cove called Khapaundi where the paragliders launched from Sarangkot typically land on the water in the late afternoon. The combination — a quiet cove, a skyward view of drifting paragliders, the Annapurnas directly to the north on clear days, a kitchen of serious technical standard — has made Krishna's one of the most distinctive settings in the entire region.
The cooking is primarily Thai, with a short Himalayan menu alongside. The Thai programme is credibly authentic — a Thai-trained head chef, imported core ingredients (galangal, kaffir lime, Thai basil, palm sugar), and a commitment to heat levels that haven't been softened for tourist palates. Signature dishes include the tom yum goong with fresh river prawns; the phad thai made with hand-cut noodles and tamarind palm-sugar sauce; a massaman curry with slow-braised goat; and the green curry with Himalayan vegetables and jasmine rice. The Himalayan section carries several regional Nepali dishes for diners wanting the local register.
The room itself is the principal attraction. A terrace sits directly on the water with tables arranged along the shoreline; indoor seating continues the view through floor-to-ceiling windows. Service is warm and unhurried, and the lunch trade is frequent enough that dinner reservations are always recommended. For romantic or milestone dinners, the sunset timing is the asset — arrive 75 minutes before sundown to catch the paragliders descending as the light drops.
