Tianyuankui (天元奎) Restaurant is a 27-year-old eatery in Pingyao Ancient City that offers breakfast classics alongside its famous lunch and dinner dishes. At Tianyuankui guesthouse-restaurant, dishes include Pingyao Beef, fried eggplant with sweet-and-sour sauce, honey vinegar, Pingyao Flat noodles with sesame crackers, and the famous Vinegar Egg Omelette. The kitchen has built its reputation as the city's reference family-kitchen single dining destination among Pingyao-resident food press.
The signature dishes feature Shanxi vinegar prominently. Pingyao Beef Cold Plate (¥38) — the regional aged-and-spiced beef sliced and served cold with a vinegar-soy dipping sauce; this is the dish's most-traditional presentation. Vinegar Egg Omelette (¥25) — the kitchen's signature fusion dish, a thin egg omelette dressed with aged Shanxi vinegar, garlic, and chili oil. Pingyao Flat Noodles with Sesame Crackers (¥28) — the regional flat-cut noodles served with a small bowl of Shanxi-vinegar dressing and crispy sesame crackers as a textural accompaniment.

The room is cosy and family-style — the kitchen operates within a small guesthouse building in the Ming-Qing Street area, with thirty seats across two floors of converted-courtyard-house decoration. Walk-ins always work; cards are accepted; the staff speak Mandarin and basic English.
