Philadelphia keeps better Sunday hours than most American dining cities, but the rule is uneven. Zahav, the city's most famous table, closes Sunday and Monday, and so do several of the tasting counters. Then a run of the best rooms stays wide open: a Marc Vetri pasta course, a Southern Thai feast in Fishtown, Iron Chef sushi off Washington Square. The trick is knowing which doors are open before you cross town. These six are confirmed open on Sunday, with the hours that make each one safe to plan a night around.
Six Philadelphia rooms confirmed open on Sunday, from Vetri's Italian tasting to Fishtown Thai. Book Kalaya early; Parc takes the brunch crowd.
How Philadelphia Eats on a Sunday
Sunday in Philadelphia splits cleanly. The chef-owned destinations that run six-day weeks, Zahav and Laurel among them, go dark, while the larger restaurant groups and the newer Fishtown kitchens keep full service. Stephen Starr's rooms, Buddakan and Parc, are reliable Sunday anchors, and Center City sushi stays open late. Dinner runs a touch earlier than New York: prime tables sit 5:30 to 8:00, with last seatings around 9:30 or 10:00.
Philadelphia now sits inside the Michelin Guide, which arrived in Pennsylvania in 2025, and several of the rooms below are listed in it. The longer-standing local benchmark is the James Beard Awards: Marc Vetri and Nok Suntaranon of Kalaya are both Beard winners. Tipping runs the US standard of 18 to 22 percent. Reserve two to three days ahead for the marquee Sunday tables; Kalaya and Vetri go first. Start with our Philadelphia dining guide for the wider picture.
The Six Best Philadelphia Restaurants Open on Sunday
Ranked by what we would book first on a Sunday, each confirmed against its current Sunday hours. Every entry links to its full verdict.
- Vetri CucinaOpen Sunday 5–9:30pm. Marc Vetri's townhouse runs the city's benchmark Italian tasting menu, the spinach gnocchi and almond tortellini among the dishes that built his Beard reputation. It is one of the rare top-tier tasting rooms in the city that serves all seven nights. Reserve two to three days out for a Sunday seat.
- KalayaOpen Sunday 5–10pm. James Beard winner Nok Suntaranon cooks the Southern Thai food of her mother's kitchen: crab curry, kanom jeen, a whole fried fish that lands at the table loud. The Fishtown room is large and bright and books up fast on Sunday. Resy, two to three days ahead.
- MorimotoOpen Sunday 5–10pm. Masaharu Morimoto's original American dining room still runs a serious omakase, around $140 a head, under the wave-form ceiling on Chestnut Street. It is the most theatrical Sunday-night sushi seat in the city. Ask for the counter and let the chef choose.
- BuddakanOpen Sunday 4–10pm. Stephen Starr's first big room, anchored by a gilded Buddha and the edamame ravioli that has stayed on the menu for two decades. It absorbs a large Sunday group better than almost anywhere downtown. Good for a birthday table that wants energy over hush.
- ParcOpen Sunday from 9:30am through dinner to 10pm. The Rittenhouse brasserie does the full French repertoire, onion soup, steak frites, a raw bar, with sidewalk tables facing the square. The Sunday brunch is the move; it is one of the city's prime people-watching tables. Walk-ins possible, but reserve the patio.
- Double KnotOpen Sunday 4–10pm. Upstairs is a coffee-and-cocktail cafe; downstairs is a dark izakaya and sushi counter running robata skewers and an omakase. It keeps later, livelier Sunday hours than most, on 13th Street along the Midtown Village strip. Good for a casual Sunday date.
Best for a Sunday Group or Birthday
For a loud, celebratory Sunday table, Buddakan in Old City and Kalaya in Fishtown both seat a crowd and feed it generously. For a quieter Sunday two-top, Double Knot's downstairs izakaya holds up. See the global best birthday restaurants.
Philadelphia Sunday Dining FAQ
Which Philadelphia restaurants are open on Sunday?
Six rooms we trust open on Sunday: Vetri Cucina (5-9:30pm), Kalaya in Fishtown (5-10pm), Morimoto (5-10pm), Buddakan (4-10pm), Parc on Rittenhouse Square (9:30am through dinner) and Double Knot (4-10pm). Note that Zahav, the city's most celebrated table, is closed Sunday and Monday, so build a Sunday night around one of these instead.
Is Zahav open on Sunday?
No. Zahav serves Tuesday through Saturday only and is closed Sunday and Monday, so it cannot be your Sunday plan. For a comparable sense of occasion on a Sunday, Marc Vetri's tasting menu at Vetri Cucina runs all seven nights, and Kalaya in Fishtown delivers a Southern Thai feast. Both are in the picks above.
Where is Sunday brunch in Philadelphia?
Parc on Rittenhouse Square is the classic Sunday brunch, open from 9:30am with a full French menu, a raw bar and sidewalk tables facing the square. It is as much a scene as a meal, so reserve the patio. Double Knot's upstairs cafe is a lower-key alternative for coffee and lighter plates.
Does Philadelphia have Michelin restaurants open on Sunday?
Yes. Michelin published its first Pennsylvania guide in 2025, and several Sunday-open rooms are listed in it, Kalaya among them. A guide listing is not the same as a star, so judge a Sunday by the kitchen and the confirmed hours. Kalaya, Vetri Cucina and Morimoto are the strongest Sunday tables on the Michelin radar.
How far ahead should I book a Sunday dinner in Philadelphia?
Two to three days covers most of these rooms, but Kalaya and Vetri Cucina go first and reward booking a week out. Buddakan and Parc absorb larger Sunday parties and often hold space closer in. Double Knot keeps the latest Sunday hours if you are deciding on the day.
