The Verdict
Cadlao Restaurant is an independent restaurant on the main Corong-Corong beach in El Nido town, operated as part of the Cadlao Resort and Restaurant boutique-hotel complex. The restaurant has been owned and operated by a Filipino-European husband-and-wife team since the early 2000s and is considered, within the El Nido independent-restaurant circuit, the reference for serious chef-driven dining.
The menu is an international-Filipino programme that reflects the ownership's European background and the region's regional ingredients — a Mediterranean section anchored on pasta and fish preparations, a Filipino section built around the Bacuit Bay seafood (the lobster, the fresh catch of the day, the calamari), and a grill section that uses the Palawan-raised pork and beef. The signature dish is a grilled-lobster-and-local-vegetables preparation that the restaurant has run as its flagship for over fifteen years.
The dining room sits in an open-air thatched pavilion directly on the beach, with seating for approximately 50 across the main dining area and a smaller beachfront section of 15 tables that is the preferred setting for dinner service. The wine list is small but competent — approximately 25 bottles, mostly European, with a short Spanish and Italian anchor. The cocktail programme uses the local Filipino rum and tropical-fruit preparations.
Cadlao Restaurant is not a Michelin-adjacent fine-dining room, but it is the most seriously-operated independent kitchen in El Nido town and the natural alternative for visitors who are not staying at the private-island resorts. The long-tenure chef-ownership and the consistent regional-produce sourcing have made it a reliably-recommended option for the El Nido dining itinerary.
Why It Works for First Date
Cadlao Restaurant is the El Nido first-date room for couples who prefer the town's independent-restaurant register to the private-island resort programmes. A chef-driven international menu, a beach-facing dining room with the Bacuit Bay as the visual anchor, and an operational programme that has been run by the same chef-ownership for nearly two decades. For couples who are not staying at the island resorts, it is the El Nido answer.
