About Villadorata
Villadorata Country Restaurant is the dining room of Dimora delle Balze — a 19th-century working masseria (Sicilian farm estate) on the SP46 country road five kilometres from the Noto historic centre, restored as a luxury country house and gastronomic restaurant by the Marpillero family in 2014 — and is one of the most photographed countryside dining settings in the Val di Noto. The masseria sits in a Iblei-mountain-foothill landscape of limestone walls, ancient olive groves and wild thyme; the restaurant occupies the original 1830s farm-house with a south-facing summer terrace and forty-eight covers.
The cuisine is modern Sicilian farm-to-table — the masseria's own two-hectare organic garden supplies most of the produce, the local Iblei sheep cooperative supplies the meat and dairy, and the Adriatic-Ionian fish comes from the Marina di Avola fishing fleet ten kilometres east. Signatures include a hand-rolled tagliolino with Mazzara red prawn from the Avola fleet; a slow-cooked Iblei lamb shoulder with thyme and rosemary from the masseria garden; a Pachino-tomato risotto with Avola almonds; a wood-fired Adriatic-Ionian dentice with Ortigia salt; a Bronte-pistachio cassata with Iblei sheep's-milk ricotta.
The wine list runs to 400 references with deep Sicilian smallholder coverage — Etna DOC, Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Frappato — and a respectable Italian-national section. Glass pours start at €6 and the by-the-glass programme runs a generous ten-glass Sicilian flight.
The dining room and summer terrace together hold sixty covers — twenty-four in the original 1830s farm-house dining room, thirty-six on the south-facing terrace overlooking the Iblei foothills. The summer terrace is the experience: south-facing, with a 270-degree view of the rolling Iblei landscape, and a kitchen that times the dessert course with the sunset for diners booked on the terrace at the appropriate evening hour.
Why It's Perfect for Proposal
Villadorata is the proposal-grade table in the Val di Noto — the masseria countryside setting is the conversation, the south-facing sunset terrace is among the most photographed Sicilian dinner views, and the dinner-and-stay format at Dimora delle Balze means a complete proposal-and-stay weekend is easy to arrange. Brief the captain three days ahead and ask for the corner two-top at the western edge of the summer terrace.
