"Connecticut's original ramen-and-pho house — come to Mecha in SoNo for Tony Pham's 24-hour pork broth and a buzzy noodle counter."
About Mecha Noodle Bar
Mecha Noodle Bar opened on Washington Street in South Norwalk as the first home of a Connecticut-born noodle group co-founded by chef Tony Pham and partner Richard Reyes. What began here has grown into a small empire of ramen-and-pho shops, but the SoNo room remains the original, an Asian-comfort-food counter that borrows freely from Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese cooking.
It is one of SoNo's most-loved casual tables. Compare the sushi at Kazu Sushi, the Himalayan Himalaya SoNo and the Mediterranean Lava SoNo, or browse the full Norwalk dining guide.
The Kitchen
Ramen is the heart of it: each bowl built from noodles, tare, stock, toppings and an aromatic oil, with a 24-hour Hakata-style pork broth, a spicy coconut-curry bowl and a vegetarian mushroom-dashi among the options. Around the ramen sit steaming bowls of pho, steamed bao buns and a short list of small plates, with a sesame-buttercream mochi to finish. Fifty cents of every ramen bowl is donated to a community cause.
It is fair value: a bowl of ramen or pho runs roughly $16 to 19 and most diners spend under $40 a head, drinks included.
The Room
The room is a buzzy, modern noodle bar — counter seating, communal energy and a happy-hour crowd spilling in after work. Service is quick and friendly, the mood casual and loud rather than hushed. It works as a fast solo bowl at the counter or a relaxed group dinner, and the happy hour pulls a steady SoNo crowd.
Best for a casual noodle dinner or solo bowl in SoNo
Mecha suits a casual night — the counter makes it a perfect solo bowl, the buzzy room an easy first date and a low-key team dinner over shared bao and ramen. For more of the area's tables, see Kazu Sushi or browse the full Norwalk dining guide.
Not for
Not for diners after a quiet, white-tablecloth dinner or a long tasting menu — this is a loud, casual noodle counter built for fast bowls of ramen and pho, not a hushed occasion.
